On April 30, 2022, I invited my friend and fellow actor Carolyn English to go with me to see a performance of "Jane Austin Unscripted" at a garden Tea at the Garry Marshall Theatre. Or their official Garry Marshall Outdoor Stage -- another innovation to cope with Covid/shutdown times. What used to be their VIP parking lot was now a paved garden with tables and an outdoor stage.
I was very excited because I hadn't been to a British tea in a long time. Not since my friend with whom I went to proper teas every couple of months had to move home to take care of her ailing parents. The actual tea part was quite skimpy but the ambiance was there and considering how we've been locked up for two years, it was quite exhilarating and fun.
The entertainment was provided by a talented acting company called The Improv Company. While we ate our cookies and drank our tea, they walked around in their Jane Austin era clothing and chatted with us. It was quite fun. Afterwards, they staged a fun, comedic play around you guessed it, improv prompts. Like any good improv show, it's those audience fed prompts that make each performance different. They were great. We had a happy, fun-filled afternoon adventure and we were so glad we went.

I really loved your post about Jane Austin Unscripted your enthusiasm for storytelling and theatre shines through beautifully. While reading, I thought about a writing friend of mine who dreamed of getting published. She spent months researching the best book publishers for new authors, trying to find a partner who understood both her voice and creative vision. Your discussion of character and dialogue makes me realize just how important it is for publishers to value nuance and passion in emerging writers.
Really enjoyed your write-up on the un-scripted arrival of spring and how the themes of renewal and reflection shine through so naturally. In a recent online exam I took, the term children’s books writing appeared in a question about narrative structure and audience engagement. That made me curious to check out some online exam helpers, which ended up offering useful ways to connect academic study with creative storytelling practices.
